Jazzercise

Jazzercise is a fitness program designed to promote total fitness through dancing. The assigned instructor leads the classes through choreographed danced to the beat of the most popular tunes. Aside from the fitness program itself, the company also distributes clothing, fitness equipment, accessories, and visual recordings under “Jazzercise Apparel.”
The humble beginning
Judi Sheppard Missett is the founder of Jazzercise. She was teaching traditional jazz dance classes in Evanston, Illinois in 1969. She turned her students away from the mirrors and began a “just for fun” class and began incorporating dance moves as a form of aerobic exercise. From Illinois, she moved to Southern California and began training other instructions through her Jazzercise program. After six years, Jazzercise started franchising.
Jazzercise instructors each total body conditioning program to more than half a million participants every year in the United States. It also expanded its business scope in over 30 countries across the globe. The instructors are trained and certified before becoming a franchise owner. Franchisees start out as a customer and they are mentored to help them become an established instructor. Sheppard makes sure that the franchisees have what it takes to run a successful fitness facility. Aspiring franchisees are screened to see to it that they indeed have the right personality and mentality. They need to fit, if not exceed the standards set by Jazzercise. They are only granted a franchise if they pass the physiology test ad practical teaching routines.
Jazzercise is suitable for any geographic market, but the company continues to strive hard to make sure that its members and franchisees will get the most out of the program. It continues to develop new programs and classes to attract new clients. Today, Jazzercise is not only for people who want to lose weight through dancing but also to older customers that require easy and less strenuous exercise routine through its low-impact program. The company is also in the stage of developing programs for younger clients, especially those who want to work hard but at the same time want to have fun. With new programs along the way, clients will have a variety of choices, which benefits not only the clients but the franchisees, from a business standpoint.
