The humble beginning
Judi Sheppard Missett is the founder of Jazzercise. She was teaching traditional jazz dance classes in Evanston, Illinois in 1969. She turned her students away from the mirrors and began a “just for fun” class and began incorporating dance moves as a form of aerobic exercise. From Illinois, she moved to Southern California and began training other instructions through her Jazzercise program. After six years, Jazzercise started franchising.
Jazzercise instructors each total body conditioning program to more than half a million participants every year in the United States. It also expanded its business scope in over 30 countries across the globe. The instructors are trained and certified before becoming a franchise owner. Franchisees start out as a customer and they are mentored to help them become an established instructor.
